OLBIAN SCENES OF DMYTRO KREMIN: UNDERGROUND AND CLASSICS

Dmytro Kremin is an outstanding Ukrainian poet, publicist, essayist, translator, and recipient of the Shevchenko Prize in literature. He was born in the Zakarpattia region and later lived and worked in the Mykolaiv region. From the early stages of his artistic life, he created several great works, including the poem «Gerstein's Memorandum»and poetic symphonies such as «The Garden», «Paranoid Zone «A»», «Dance of the Wandering Fire», «Adam's Horses». In his collection «Summer Time» (Mykolaiv, 2007), the central piece is the poem «ANNO DOMINI» subtitled «A lost poem. Fragments snatched from the fire». This represents a later period of Kremin's work, where he focuses on the theme of Ukrainian loss and unrealized history caused by external influences or the absence of strong intellectual minds among Ukrainians. With an astonishing ability for artistic, planetary, and historical vision, Kremin effortlessly combines eras, territories, genres, and forms of presentation. He skillfully weaves together known, little-known, and completely unknown facts and events, drawing from a deep understanding of various aspects of life. He gracefully incorporates old Ukrainian vocabulary and neologisms into the narrative and emotional fabric of his texts. Dmytro Kremin's primary concern is the fate of Ukraine, which he sees as tragic. He strives, albeit somewhat expressively and chaotically, to find a way out of the abyss his country is in. Kremin has a remarkable sense of the pulsating age he lives in. His poems feature mythical heroes and real people, historical events and fantastic adventures, the sacred and the sinful, ruthlessly realistic and romantically elevated, existing side by side in time and space, in visions and reality, in Olbia and in Ukraine, in Mykolaiv and in Uzhhorod. The article attempts an artistic and aesthetic analysis of Dmytro Kremin's contemporary poetry, arguing that the poem «Lost Letter» truly challenges the established philosophical, ethical, and aesthetic codes of society while directing the poetic word towards self-expression.
