Abstract

The author of the article compares the principles of education in the new Ukrainian school, defined by Sofia Rusova and Yakiv Chepiga, highlights the oneness in their views and the desire to create an Ukrainian school, at the center of which is the individuality of the child with her/his uniqueness.

Getting acquainted with the creative heritage of educational scientists Sofia Rusova and Yakiv Chepiga, we are surprised and admire the oneness of some ideas and views aimed at improving education in Ukraine.

At the beginning of the XX century Sofia Rusova and Yakiv Chepiga, together with other Ukrainian teachers, developed problems of national education and upbringing, promoted the ideas of the national school, and taught in the native language. Deep knowledge of the latest trends in Western European pedagogy, the study of original foreign works allowed teachers to influence the formation of a new national school, to direct the directions of its development.

Ingeniously simple statements of Yakiv Chepiga about self-education and self-improvement of the teacher are consonant with views on the ideal of the teacher Sofia Rusova. Educators argued in their articles, public speeches, teaching correspondence that the path to the true ideal of the teacher is through awareness of the true spiritual essence of the purpose of teaching, to carry the light of knowledge through personal perception of the ideals of wisdom of teachers of previous generations. The teacher, through his/her own soul, must miss the great achievements of managerial culture, enrich himself/herself with a subjective vision of the inexhaustible treasure of songs, words, etc., and ignite the flame of spiritually majestic beauty in the souls of children.
