MASS MEDIA ABOUT THE FATEFUL DISCOVERY OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

Abstract

The article analyzes the reaction of the media on the sensational world-wide archeological discovery of Ukrainian scientist Borys Mykolayovych Mozolevsky. The Golden Pectoral was found during the excavations of the Scythian mound "Tovsta Mohyla" near the town of Pokrova in Dnipropetrovsk region. This discovery became fateful in the life and academic work of our countryman. The first publications and articles that appeared in 1971 in the local and state newspapers and magazines as well as some academic works of the 70s of the XX century are taken into account. In these works the importance and value of objects which were found during excavations for the further development of Scythology in Ukraine are described. The historical and cultural significance of the pectoral which was found by the scientist and the importance of the event for further study of the history of the Scythians in Ukraine are highlighted.
