MYKOLA MYKOLAYOVYCH BENARDOS - INVENTOR OF THE «GIANT IN A CART» - ELECTRIC WELDING OF METALS

(To the 180th anniversary of the birthday)

Abstract

The article is devoted to the world-famous inventor Mykola Benardos, born in the village of Mostovo, Bratsky district, Mykolaiv region. In 2022 the science community celebrates the 180th birth anniversary of the great innovator, who produced a device for electric arc metal welding and first in the world developed welding technology. Mykola Benardos apart from electric welding had more than 200 inventions in various fields: transport (rail and water ones), agriculture, medicine, industry and military affairs, etc. The people of Mykolaiv were among the first in Ukraine to use Benardos's invention. A street in the city of Fastiv is named after «Electric Hephaestus». Besides, he was a democrat, humanist, philanthropist and educator.  A monument to honor him was erected and a memorial museum was initiated by his son. The Mykola Benardos Museum was founded in Pereyaslav in May 1981.
