This article examines mind mapping as an innovative tool for visualizing and organizing primary school students' learning within the integrated language and literature course. Driven by the New Ukrainian School's competence-based, activity-based, and integrated approaches, there is a pressing need for educational tools that ensure both content mastery and the development of key subject-specific competencies. Since this integrated course combines teaching reading, writing, speaking, and elements of linguistic theory, it requires students to process significant amounts of information. Consequently, visual tools become essential to accommodate young learners' psychological and pedagogical age characteristics. These include the dominance of visual-figurative thinking, as well as the limited capacity of voluntary attention and memory. The study clarifies the genesis and essence of mind maps as a modern cognitive visualization tool in psychological and pedagogical literature. It highlights methodological techniques for implementing mind mapping at various lesson stages, such as the activation of prior knowledge, the acquisition of new material, and final reflection, to stimulate students' cognitive activity. Furthermore, the authors propose original competence-based and activity-based tasks utilizing mind maps to build a holistic knowledge system and universal learning actions among primary education students. Conclusively, mind mapping proves to be an effective strategy for optimizing the educational process, facilitating a transition from reproductive teaching methods to productive, creative, and holistic cognitive activity. Prospects for further research include exploring the methodology of combining traditional and digital mind-mapping technologies in primary schools.
