Abstract

The article, dedicated to the 210th anniversary of the poet’s birth, examines the problem of a unique, extremely acute, peculiarity of perception of the inimitable personality and work of the great Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, one of the world-famous writers of the second half of the last century, as reflected in the notes of a political prisoner, «The voice from the choir». The uniqueness of this perception is due to the peculiarity of the tragic fate of the author of the work «Voice from the Choir» created in the camp, namely, the famous scientist, literary critic, and writer Andrii Syniavskyi, who was sentenced to imprisonment due to his disagreement with the Soviet authorities. Shameful for the Soviet authorities, the trial of the writers Syniavskyi and Daniel in the 1960s was a doomed attempt by the system to defeat people who opposed the totalitarian society. As a result, both writers were sentenced to long prison terms.    While in the camp, the literary critic A. Syniavskyi draws attention to the attitude towards T. Shevchenko and his work among Ukrainian political prisoners who were convicted for fighting against imperial pressure, for liberating Ukraine from the power of the empire. This aroused his interest in the work of a Ukrainian poet he apparently knew. But when he read T. Shevchenko’s works, he admitted that the real T. Shevchenko turned out to be an unknown author. А. Syniavskyi analyzed T. Shevchenko’s poetry, which, according to the scientist, was at least half a century ahead of its time. Thanks to this analysis, he determined the origins of T. Shevchenko’s influence on the fate of the Ukrainian people as a national genius who managed to embody in his work the primordial desire of Ukrainians for freedom. On these grounds, he determined the mental uniqueness of the Ukrainian people and their superiority over the Russians in the process of moral and emotional perception of the world.
