THE BIBLIOTHERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL OF HRYHORII SKOVORODA'S WORKS (NEW UKRAINIAN SCHOOL, CURRICULA FOR GRADES 5-6)

The article analyzes the amount of Hryhorii Skovoroda’s literary works to be studied in the Ukrainian literature curricula in grades 5–6. Hryhorii Skovoroda is the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher, poet and teacher and his literary works have a great bibliotherapeutic potential, so this study investigates the potential use by teachers in Ukrainian literature lessons. We consider the bibliotherapeutic potential as an emotionally important factor in revealing the reader's personal attitude towards the content. It is significant that the reader acquires life-meaningful practice. Due to this, the reader will be convinced of the usefulness the content they read.
We emphasize the importance of using Ukrainian texts written by Hryhorii Skovoroda. This is necessary for a reader to enjoy studying ancient literature. The works of Hryhorii Skovoroda help to understand the lyrical hero through the world reflection. It enhances the reader establish their life priorities. Within values, we demonstrate the options for different priorities. It is up to the reader to decide and make a decision about priority either inner one or outer one. There is another option available, which is balance between the inner and outer worlds. The teacher's mission, based on the example of Hryhorii Skovoroda's text, is to construct a situation of choice. However, the ultimate decision about values or ethical choice about behavior remains with the reader. Teaching recommendations are given to build schoolchildren's awareness of the outstanding Ukrainian figure Hryhorii Skovoroda and his role in the developing Ukrainian identity.
