Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the new book written by Taras Kremen and Lyudmila Starovoit. This book is about Dmytro Kremin who was the winner of the Shevchenko Prize. This book was published in Mykolayiv after the poet's death.

We believe that  Dmytro Kremin's  work in modern Ukrainian literature is quite significant primarily because his evolution of work reflects the period of self-consciousness of Ukrainian society on the way to independence and statehood. The patriotic-oriented poet did a lot to establish in the self-consciousness of the Ukrainian people the value of Ukrainian independence as the highest achievement of the Ukrainian nation.

The authors claim that this book is a fundamentally new view in the  understanding of the life and work of the great Ukrainian poet.

The book presents in detail not only the creative period, which we tentatively call "Uzhgorod", because this was the time of Kremin's studies at Uzhgorod State University. It explores the way in which the party-state power sought to break the young poet, to force him to abandon his own poetic principles, his poetic voice, and his own poetry purpose. The confrontation between the poet and the system was catastrophic, because they wanted to deprive man of the natural right to a free world - to be himself.

The authors analyze the archival materials presented in the book, the memories of friends and like-minded people of the young poet about the tragic events for him.

The article notes the steadiness of the moral and aesthetic values of the young author, who defended his right to remain a poet with dignity.  The need to continue studying the stages of life and work of Dmytro Kremin is indicated.
