TEACHER OF THE YEAR COMPETITION: HISTORICAL OVERVIEW, CURRENT STATE AND PROSPECTS

The article analyzes the practical experience of conducting the first stage of the All-Ukrainian competition «Teacher of the Year». It emphasizes teacher adaptation to professional challenges under martial law and the need for continuous professional development and self-improvement. The study identifies barriers to professional growth and argues that educators’ professional adaptation occurs not only through teaching practice but also during preparation for the «Teacher of the Year» competition. Scholarly works on professional adaptation in forming a successful personality are reviewed, while the concept of «pedagogical adaptation of a teacher» is clarified and its components are defined. Professional integration encompasses social and psychophysiological dimensions. The article outlines the organization of the first stage of the All-Ukrainian competition «Teacher of the Year» over 30 years. It elucidates the coordination of activities by the Mykolaiv In-Service Teachers Training Institute regarding professional development through this competitive platform. The cooperation, communication, and methodological support provided by the institute staff to regional educators during their participation in professional contests are demonstrated. Based on a survey of competition participants, the article identifies motivational factors influencing teachers’ willingness to take part in competitive stages. It focuses on the fact that the pursuit of self-development is a priority, and professional adaptation under wartime conditions is increasingly important. Winners of the final stage of the All-Ukrainian competition «Teacher of the Year» achieve professional recognition, career success, and increased competitiveness in the labor market. These elements contribute to the resilience of the Ukrainian educational community.
